TLIE Top Tip: Amendments to Rule 5.05, Unauthorized Practice of Law and the Remote Practice of Law

This dedicated resource is designed to support TLIE’s insured attorneys navigate issues of legal ethics and risk management that arise in their practices. Attorneys who answer these calls can provide guidance, practical tips and strategies to minimize potential ethical and malpractice pitfalls.
At TLIE, we believe that loss prevention and risk management is an integral part of the relationship with our members and a significant benefit we can offer. Our relationship doesn’t end with the issuance of your policy. We provide ongoing support, including access to our loss prevention attorney who can answer your questions and offer guidance on issues that may arise in your practice. As a TLIE insured, we not only protect you when things go wrong, but we also offer best practice recommendations to enhance your practice and minimize exposure to claims.

TLIE can also assist assist in developing and/or reviewing internal policies and procedures that promote compliance and risk awareness.

TLIE recognizes that minimizing risks is essential to your practice’s success. As such, TLIE’s loss prevention attorney is available to help you identify, assess, and mitigate potential issues before they lead to claims. For example, we believe that effective client communication is key to preventing claims.
TLIE provides resources and training on how to manage client expectations, address concerns proactively, and document interactions to avoid miscommunications which can lead to grievances and claims.

There are times when an issue needs a more thorough analysis and/or legal opinion than what TLIE can offer its members through our attorney help line or risk management consult. In those situations, TLIE will make an appropriate referral of the matter to an outside ethics attorney for further engagement. Further, TLIE will pay for the first hour of the engagement with that outside ethics counsel.
