TLI has previously written about wire transfer scams and hacked email accounts.  The warnings and tips in those articles remain true and should be reviewed.  But since those articles were written, the criminals have gotten better. They know the “red flags” you are looking for and have developed new scams where those flags are less obvious.   

In the newer scams, fraudsters employ tactics where there is a slower grooming process to build up your trust.  The initial email you get may even come from attorney who is making a “referral.” When you look up the attorney, she is a real person who is in good standing with her bar association and has a good reputation in the legal community.
