Many years ago, I remember sitting through a junior league meeting where two young partners from a large law firm in town gave a presentation about some legal topic relevant to our group at the time. Although I was an attorney, most in my group were not. And I remember thinking that their presentation was a great idea to network and client develop with a group of potential future clients.
That situation is not unique, and lawyers often offer education on legal topics to non-lawyer groups with the hope that one day someone in that group will need legal advice and give them a call. This is the situation addressed by Opinion 702 from the Texas Professional Ethics Committee (August 2024).
