Sylvia Firth joined the TLI Board of Directors in 2025. She earned her B.B.A. with honors from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and her law degree from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law in 1984.
After graduating, Sylvia returned to her hometown of El Paso to practice law. Over the course of her career, she has worked at two law firms, served as general counsel for a large garment-industry company, and held several leadership roles with the City of El Paso, including Assistant City Attorney, Chief of Staff to the Mayor, Director of Governmental Affairs, and ultimately City Attorney. She is currently Of Counsel to the Bojorquez Law Firm, headquartered in Austin, and serves as city attorney for the Town of Horizon City, the Town of Anthony, and the City of Marfa, Texas.
In June 2021 Sylvia was sworn in as the President of the State Bar of Texas making her the first person ever elected from El Paso, only the 7th woman to hold the seat and the first Hispanic woman.
When she is not busy with her practice and numerous volunteer activities she can be found cycling, swimming or running and training for sprint distance triathlons.
