After more than 38 years of distinguished service to the legal profession, President and CEO Mike Yarber retired from Texas Lawyers’ Insurance Exchange at the end October, 2023.

Steve Couch was elected to assume the role of President and CEO on Mike’s retirement.

Mike received his B.A. in Economics from Southwestern University in 1979, and his J.D. from the University of Houston School of Law in 1984 and became a member of the State Bar of Texas.  He began his career with TLIE in 1985 as a Senior Claims Attorney helping to resolve professional liability claims against Texas lawyers and judges.  He was elected Vice President of Claims in 2010 and then became Executive Vice President in 2013. In 2014, Mike was elected President and CEO.  During his tenure and through his outstanding leadership, TLIE enhanced the policy provisions offered to insureds, expanded the types of policies available, increased the number of attorneys it insures, reduced TLIE’s dependence on reinsurance while maintaining a sound financial position, and continued the practice of returning profits to its policyholders.  Over the past 24 years, TLIE has returned over $65,800,000 in profits to its member insureds.

TLIE and its insureds have been extremely fortunate to have the benefit of Mike Yarber’s outstanding leadership all these years. The Board of Directors thanks Mike for his many years of faithful service to TLIE, its members and the legal profession, and wish him the very best in his retirement.”  said Suzan Fenner, Chair of the TLIE Board of Directors.
